How hyperlocals can promote your news

You’ve got an exciting story to share about your small business – perhaps you’re marking three decades in operation, maybe you’ve won a prestigious award, or you’re expanding.

You want your story read by the right audience but knowing where to start can feel daunting.

Firstly, it’s important to consider who this news would appeal to. If it’s people on your doorstep, then look no further than your hyperlocal news outlets.

Lots of communities are now covered by hyperlocal publications. These are often free and distributed through thousands of residents’ doors – ideal!

Connect with the magazine’s editor to make them aware of your news. But do this in plenty of time, as the majority of these publications are either monthly or quarterly.

These publications are often complimented by an online news site, so if you do miss a deadline, your story could always be shared online.

Consider how you pitch your story and how you can make your pitch stand out. Editors’ inboxes are often full to the brim with press releases, so an eye-catching subject line will make sure your story isn’t lost.

And be prepared to follow up with the editor if you don't hear anything back. Persistence is key!

If you would like help with sharing your news and writing a stand-out press release, then get in touch. With experience as a hyperlocal journalist, I’d love to help!
