How to write press releases

So, you've got some big news to share, but you're not sure where to start.

Whether your business has just bagged a prestigious award, is expanding, or launching a product worthy of the Dragons' approval, a well-crafted press release is an excellent way to start spreadin' the news (sang in the voice of the legendary Frank Sinatra)!

Crafting an effective press release involves a punchy headline, a compelling intro, a structured body, and contact details for further information.

As a seasoned journalist of over 10 years, I've seen what works, and following this format increases your chances of getting noticed.

So, without further ado, here are my top tips for writing a cracking press release:

1️⃣ Consider your audience first. It's important to know where you intend to send your news, and tailor your release accordingly.

2️⃣ Remember the 5 Ws and 1 H: Who? What? Where? When? Why?... And How? These questions have been etched into my brain since my university days, and they're crucial for constructing a press release that tells a story.

3️⃣ Grab attention with a catchy headline. Editors receive dozens of emails a day - you need to make your press release stand out.

4️⃣ Think about the main point you're trying to convey, and focus your introduction on that.

5️⃣ Keep it concise - aim for 15-20 words per sentence for maximum readability.
